“It's funny because when you're a child. You believe you can be anything you want to be and go wherever you want to go. There's no limit to what you can dream. You expect the unexpected. You believe in magic, in fairy tales, and in possibilities.” Nonetheless, when you have had a glimpse of Love, Rosie starring Lily Collins as Rosie Dune and Sam Claflin as Alex Stewart, you will understand that life is not a straight path, and there will always be bumpy roads ahead of you. The screenplay of the 2014 movie was written by Juliet Louhidi, based on the novel by Cecelia Ahearn, which was originally named “Where Rainbows End”. Lily Collins has won numerous awards such as the “Young Hollywood Award” in 2008, “New Hollywood Award” in 2016 and much more. While, Sam Claflin has been nominated and won several awards, such as the 2016 Spotlight award and Glamour Award for Man of the Year.

Lily Collins and Sam Claflin did a great job in representing their roles in the movie. Their role was appropriate for their characters in the movie, showing that they are a perfect example of “true love will find its way back”. The connection between the two may be relatable to some, that even through tough times you will know who will always be there for you. The friendship between the two started off as pure innocence while they were growing up. They would simply know each other’s favorite food and color. They had common interests and would hate the same things like normal kids would. They know each other’s dreams, crushes and goals in life. Like any, other boy-girl relationship in the real world, though, realistically one would always fall in love. Finding myself in Rosie’s position, it is terrible to admit feelings to someone because you are scared of ruining the friendship. Francesca Rudkin states, “Love, Rosie succeeds well enough on its own, largely due to the fabulous chemistry between the leads, who bring their flawed, well-rounded characters to life in a funny, warm and amiable manner.” Just as I thought, that made the movie very astounding.

The whole plot was very unrealistic, yet it may be possible. Because let us face it, it is not like everyday you get married and the next thing you know you have fallen in love with someone else. There are parts which are possible to happen in real life, such as unexpected pregnancy, a sudden slump and a major comeback from all the hardships. There were complicated twists in the movie that were worth waiting for. First of all, how can you marry three times in your life without even considering your image and what the society would think? At the end of the day in the real world, it will be hard for people to respect your behavior. Within the span of twelve years, you have been promiscuous and at the day of your wedding, you have realized that it is the other girl you are supposed to marry. The story was quite dreamy and very fairytale like. It is not so evident in our society as of the moment, wherein the scenarios present in the film would occur. Nevertheless, the cinematography was exceptional. The change of moods in each scene matches perfectly with the movie as a whole. The ambiance that they have presented makes you relax and lay back. There was an excellent montage that delivers a smoothly transitioned movie. Adolfo Martinez stated, “The director successfully builds a good story about love and kindness”. Not to mention, the perfect pick of soundtrack which gives off classical tunes, that would be perfect for those morning blues.

The film presented life lessons that would be very significant to people these days. Initially, Rosie’s life did not go as planned because of unanticipated circumstances. Her life goals and dreams just seemed to fade away. Her first love who has been there for her since the very beginning found another girl. Her life seems to break apart piece by piece. She ended up not living like a normal teenage girl. She did not go to college just to support and take care of her child. Instead, she worked at a hotel first, as housekeeping, and later on, she was granted a position as a receptionist. Rather than owning a hotel that she first dreamt of, she just worked at one. This would teach the audience that you will never know what life will give you. There are some things that we should adjust on. This is because life is not always picture perfect like how everyone would want it to be. Yet, there are two things that the movie, “Love, Rosie” reminds us of. One is hard work and perseverance will always pay off. Dreams are possible to achieve if we work on it. Second, time will take care of everything. Rosie once said “I just want to belong to someone. I’m tired of waiting”. After twelve years, she finally married her best friend. It was definitely a long road, yet time fixed their relationship. After working hard at a hotel for a couple of years after, she was able to establish her own dream hotel and to add to that, everything in her life became stable.

The film, complete with exceptional cinematography and an extraordinary storyline is perfect for those who want some emotional dredging (hugot). I take pleasure in watching “Love, Rosie” especially with the company of those people dear to me. From a perspective of a woman who is strong and persevering. Despite the misfortunes that life brings, everything will be fine in the end. There is a reason for naming the novel “where rainbow ends” because after all of the uphill and downhill that we face it would always lead to end of the rainbow that would make our lives settle down, or our so-called “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow”
